Kids Are Quitting College To Be Tiktok Stars — And I’d Probably Do The Same
At least, 10 years ago.
Kids are quitting college to be Tiktok stars.
I mean, who wouldn’t?
If you are given the opportunity to learn and become an online influencer and earn millions in just one post, just like that, why wouldn’t you want it?
I read a piece of news that said that teens are dropping out of college to become Tiktok stars. And guess what? They were able to pay off their parent’s debt and live comfortably at a young age.
Now, compare this with becoming a teacher or a nurse or any other job to apply. Their net worth is probably less than the stars, not to mention if they have to handle toxic culture or clients to keep their jobs. It’s a lot tougher.
And we wonder why these kids prefer to be Tiktok stars rather than spending thousands of dollars in college.
The Harsh Truth
The truth is that the common road to going to college and getting a job isn’t easy anymore.
The competition is high and the price to go to school itself is high.
There’s a piece of news from China that stated that Gen Zs are currently having difficulties looking for jobs.
I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t want to be like these Tiktokers because they were able to find a way to get out of the system and find another way to make money. When Youtube first started, nobody thought that they’d make a partner program where you can earn money by becoming a Youtuber. The OG Youtubers were in luck back then.
Nowadays, since the content creator is a thing, whenever there is a new social media platform, people would jump to the chance in hopes to become one of those OGs and make that a living.
Hence, the Tiktok frenzy.
I’d also be lying if I say that I’m in full support for these social media. But the truth is, it’s probably easier to make Tiktok as a job than working at a 9–5 that most people hate so much.
After learning about this, kids probably took the steering wheel and went elsewhere.
I mean, who wouldn’t?
If you were given a choice to 1) Go to college, be in debt, and get a job that you might not like or 2) quit college to be a Tiktok star where currently, the algorithm is in the favor of the content creators and you’ll have a better chance to be an online star….
Which would you choose?
When the most important job turns toxic.
I stumbled across a Tiktok video where there was this young kid who ranted online that her job is toxic and she was happy that she quits.
And guess what her job was…
Nursing.
When a job where you are paid to save lives becomes toxic, that’s a huge red alert.
And it’s not just for nursing. The same goes for nearly every job, since the pandemic, many seem to say that their leaders or jobs are toxic.
Is it the employee's fault for being too soft or is the boss the one who is an A-hole?
Either way, this has led to that Great Resignation.
I just find it sad that one of the most important jobs has been considered toxic.
And because of that, people are turning to Tiktok to avoid such big debts.
I don’t blame kids these days who want to be online stars
I used to be angry that kids these days are quitting school to be superstars.
Heck, I’m jealous that they got that opportunity as a kid.
Looking at how the economic state is, and how different education is from reality, it’s kind of hard not to get into Tiktok stars and avoid those huge debts.
Not to mention, while Russia and Ukraine are still at war, prices will still be up.
So, no. I don’t blame the kids if they want to be Tiktok stars to avoid going into debt.
If society loves their content, who are we to blame them for entertaining us and making it a job?
