COVID-19 Is NOT A Free Pass to Blame Asians

It’ll only make things worst.

I live in Indonesia, so there hasn’t been any reported violent case going on.

However, I’m also aware of what’s happening in America. Am I worried? Of course, my family and friends are there. I worry if their friends had to stay away from them just because they are Asian or, hopefully, it won’t happen, get hated.

As everyone knows by now, the virus started in Wuhan back at the end of 2019 and it began to spread rather quickly to the point we all had to stay at home.

At this point, I don’t know when it happened exactly, but several of my friends and family who lives in America got worried because they found news after news that Asians are being targetted. Not to mention the unfortunate way of Trump calling it the Chinese virus has it sparked racism across the country.

HUGE NOTE.

If you hate the president for saying some things that are offensive, let’s all cool down first. Let’s not fight fire with fire. It won’t bring any good for fighting back at him now that this happens.

Yes, he said things that angered the public, but don’t let anger hinder what we are truly fighting. Let him say things, just don’t give him hate speeches again. Throughout his time as president, I’ve seen many people giving him a lot of hate, but that still didn’t stop him from doing his duty as president.

So, stop. Take a deep breath, and let’s just show kindness to everyone. Because as what Keanu Reeves once said,

“If you have been brutally broken but still have the courage to be gentle to other living beings, then you’re a badass with a heart of an angel

So let’s clear things up…

My family and friends didn’t even go to China when it happened, so these virus had nothing to do with them. Some of my relatives are Asian-Americans there, they too had nothing to do with the pandemic. Blaming Asians isn’t going to make this any better, this is a natural issue that decided to show up now.

It’s not China’s fault that this happened. I mean, who wants to get sick anyway? This is something that we all are trying to fight off together, neither countries are the enemies, it’s just like when ebola emerged. No one was responsible for the disease.

At the moment, hating or even doing violence against Asians isn’t going to make the virus go away. In fact, it’s also breaking the social distancing policy. You are risking yourself by meeting someone physically. Remember, you don’t know who gets the virus and where is it now. I suggest you all to watch Contagion to get the big picture of what we are facing currently.

So what do we then?

What we all can do now is follow what the rules are already given. Don’t go to places where it’s going to get crowded, keep your distance, and stay at home. Yes, it’s boring, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. But every minute you stay at home is another minute saved for the doctors and nurses who are still working tirelessly for the infected patients. I hope all the medical teams get a noble peace prize after this pandemic is over.

If you don’t like what the president says, then leave it be and just do what’s best for you. Again, doing hate is not going to make things any easier. There are still people out there who need donations or supplies, so use that time to help someone instead.

For those who are trying to grow your business, you got more time to do so now! The beauty of working from home is that you get to have more time for yourself.

So, be nice, be kind. We’re all this together, just stay at home and stay healthy. Have a good day!!
