3 Years Of Trump’s Reign. So What Was All The Fuss?
Recapping the times when media exaggerated Trump’s policies.
Remember those days when the Media said a lot of things about him in the news? How he banned people from Muslim countries to enter the US? Why he proposed the wall?
Were they all what they said he proposed?
Here are the most said proposals mentioned in the news:
- Banning people from Muslim countries
- The Wall to ban Mexicans to enter
- Elimination of ObamaCare
These were the hot topics. Yes, from the title itself, it looks wrong already. But there are actually misleading titles from it. Lets discuss what was all the noises in the media:
According to the media, he had proposed many things that led the world to be manipulated. The world is led to believe that US had voted a dictator, as ethical activities seemed to be disregarded, such as his most famous project of ‘Building a Wall’. People began questioning his plans and ideas of ‘Make America Great Again’. However, we must consider that this information was all biased towards Hillary Clinton during the presidential campaign.
Trump is a businessman running for president and throughout his proposals it contributed more to the economy. Below are his famous projects that may impact many activities: politically, socially, and economically.
QUICK NOTE: What I researched here are taken from a lot of official news. If you have any disagreements, let me know in the comment sections.
Banning people from Muslim Countries
This project was already in motion, though the media exaggerated this but Trump banned people from WARFARE nations for 90 days. Indonesia is not banned from this. My friends from Indonesia is happily traveling and studying in US with no problem.
Trump announced that he banned seven nations: Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, and Libya. These countries have long histories of warfare and terror attacks such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda who are radical Muslims to the point the United Nations must intervene in the mess, even Obama considered them as ‘countries of concerns’.
Terrors have been reported a lot in 2016, and if it keeps going on without improving proper protection to the country, then how is this ethically providing security towards their own country? Trump did this to protect US from radical Muslims who promotes violence and believed in terrorism. A majority of radicals are hiding amongst the refugees and calling themselves Muslims.
Besides, that day it was only for a certain period of time, not forever.
Building a Wall
This is one of the most heard information and supported proposals. Trump proposed this and demanded Mexico to pay for it. He believed that Mexico are sending ‘sick’ people (this is a bit exaggerated)and damaged US by bringing in drugs, and a lot of crimes. This linked to the weak protection that US has, and that this must stop. The favor for this project is because of the continuous illegal trade and crime coming and going in US, making loss of the country’s economy.
Reports have shown that between 2003 and 2009, there had been nearly 3 million crimes committed by illegal immigrants and 25,000 of them are in prison in US.
Trump said in an interview with Stephen Colbert, that US has a trade deficit of almost $45 billion with Mexico because of not going through proper procedures of being a legal immigrant. He believed that once the wall is built, it will stop crime and especially drug trade because there has been a lot of cartels, and shadow businesses getting into cities like Chicago, New York, and the profits were transferred to Mexico and drugs keep coming into US.
Although this means the re-negotiations of NAFTA, a signed agreement between US, Mexico, and Canada called the North American Free Trade Agreement, it can help compensate the 500, 000–750, 000 lost manufacturing jobs whilst NAFTA was created. This policy have also forced many labors to barely earn a living, so there is a huge gap between the rich and poor.
The wall is built to protect the rights of legal immigrants, who went through long procedures of proper paper agreements in order to cross the border legally, and to save jobs for locals and legal immigrants in the US that can contribute to the economy fairly. So he is not being racist, as the media keeps saying and twisting words to manipulate readers to the point news can hardly be trusted, he is just stating facts.
Elimination of Obamacare
Although this program may sound like socialism, the policies only worked for higher class people because it was very expensive. We must take note that insurance companies are still making profits, so there is no act of socialism but corporatism as people are paying strangers for their health after they realized they are at risk. For example, A does not smoke, but B smokes. The insurance made both pay equal amounts in order to cover for B, so where is the ethics in these?
The Obamacare was created in 2010 to help American citizens to gain more access to health insurance and benefits in 2008 financial crisis. However, Obama said that everyone MUST have this insurance otherwise they will be penalized to pay every year. For example, for adults, if you are uninsured in 2014, you must pay $95. The next year you are still uninsured, you must pay $325 and the next year will be $695.
Obamacare is so expensive that even employers were cutting labors because they could not cover their health insurance. Additionally, this program is one of the cause of the rapid increase in federal deficits and US National Debt by trillions.
Furthermore, there were not enough doctors to participate. This program failed in their systems. There is a difference between: being “taxed” and “penalty” but ObamaCare seem to make these two things the same. So how is this ethically protecting in lower, and middle classes from poverty when the country’s debt keeps spiking up every time someone enrolled in this program by force?
Though to be fair, healthcare will always be the most expensive. However, it’s just the regulations that need more adjustments.
Conclusion
As someone living in Indonesia, I think Trump is fine as president. In here, USD rate increased the day the bank interest in the US did since the financial crisis. So as you can see here, there’s an economy improvement in US.
In Obama’s reign, he believed that an entrepreneur is less important (Rebel Media, 2016). But it is a huge deal, because it creates jobs. Sure, he had experienced bankruptcy, but that is how people become successful by learning from past hard mistakes.
It’s been three years since he was first elected, and from what I see, I think US is just fine. Some people just need to calm down and sometimes, get over the fact that he is president. Though there are speculations that Russia intervened in the election. But what’s done is done. It just means US should’ve done more to prevent this from happening.
